22 Innings?!?!?!
Friday, April 18, 2008 8:10 AM

Last night the Rockies beat the Padres 2-1 in the longest game in franchise history, 22 innings. It was a wonderful game, scoreless until the 14th, when both teams scored one run. The Rockies finally went ahead for good in the top of the 22nd when Troy Tulowitzki doubled in Willy Taveras. The game started at 8:05 pm Mountain time and ended 6 hours and 16 minutes later. The teams combined for 15 pitchers and 658 pitches in the game. Unfortunately I didn't see the ending, or even a run, as I fell asleep in the 12th inning.
More on the game in the Rocky Mountain News, Denver Post, and New York Times.
22 innings?!?!?! Crazy! Go Rockies!

Church Council Retreat
Friday, April 18, 2008 8:03 AM

This past weekend, Andrea and I went up to Winter Park for the Holy Shepherd Church Council retreat. We drove up on Friday night, carpooling with Pastor Michael, Sherman, and Sue. We stopped at Deno's in Winter Park for dinner after a treacherous drive over Berthoud Pass before driving up to the YMCA of the Rockies' Snow Mountain Ranch. After everyone arrived, we did a number of icebreaking activities and then Pastor Rick served Communion. We then played Apples to Apples as a group for the rest of the night.
Saturday morning was an early morning as we had to be done with breakfast by 7:45 so the morning's activities could start by 8. The morning session was presented by Pastor Dan Bollman of the ELCA Rocky Mountain Synod on church leadership. He was a very good speaker and the talk was very informative. After lunch, Pastor Michael and Sue led a session on the new Spiritual Gifts ministry that we are starting and then followed that with a leadership video presentation. We closed with another Communion service and then headed back home to Denver.
It was a good weekend of learning about church leadership and getting to know our fellow council members better. Pictures are in the Photo Album.

2008 Home Opener
Friday, April 4, 2008 8:47 AM

First pitch of the 2008 Home Opener is just 4 and a half hours away! The Rockies return to Coors Field today for the first time since losing Game 4 of the 2007 World Series to the Boston Red Sox. I've already got my jersey on and I'm ready to head to the ballpark for the game. This is my first opening day as a season ticket holder and I'm already brimming with excitement. I'm meeting Dave downtown around 12:30, then we'll grab a bite to eat and head to the ballpark.
Go Rockies!

Drew Love in the Des Moines Register
Thursday, April 3, 2008 3:27 PM

The Des Moines Register has a wonderful article today about Andrea's cousin, Drew Love. Drew finished second at the Iowa State Wrestling Championships this year despite battling ankylosing spondylitis, which is a rare form of arthritis that causes inflammation and pain in joints and ligaments. I knew that Drew had been on a special diet for it, but I had no idea of the level of pain that he was dealing with. Congratulations Drew on a special season and a great feature!

Mike Love 4/4/20086:16 AM Thanks Shane, Drew worked really hard and suffered a lot this year to get to state. I wrote some thoughts down the morning of the state finals and sent them to Drew's coach. He sent the story to the local paper. They put the story in all the Dallas County papers and that led to the article in the Des Moines Register that you have on your web page. I'll try to send you the original story. Take Care, Mike
